Algerian media reported that the authorities arrested Said Bouteflika, brother of the former president and his adviser, and former head of the intelligence service, General Mohamed Madin, known as General Tawfiq, along with his successor in the intelligence, General Bashir Tarqat.

The Algerian daily An-Nahar reported that Tarek and Madin were expected to be transferred to the military court on Sunday, without revealing the fate of Said Bouteflika.

For his part, the site of "everything about Algeria" private sources said described by the confirmation that the generals were arrested and are currently being investigated within the center of the Department of Internal Security of the intelligence in the capital.

The Anatolia news agency reported that the detainees were following up on a case involving "conspiring against the army and the popular movement."

In an earlier speech, Army Commander Ahmed Kayed Saleh launched a sharp attack on General Tawfiq and accused him of using foreign forces.

Qaid Saleh spoke of the "gang" that took control of the presidency before Bouteflika resigned, referring to Said, who is accused of taking over the powers of the president since his brother suffered a stroke in 2013.

A few days ago, former defense minister Khalid Nizar said in a statement that Said Bouteflika consulted before his brother resigned from the presidency on the imposition of a state of emergency and the dismissal of the army chief to stop the popular movement.
