Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Monday ridiculed his opponents for using social media to rally protesters against his three-decade rule and said governments and presidents could not be changed through Watsab and Facebook.

Organizers of the anti-government protests that rocked Sudan for weeks have used social media like Facebook, Wattsab and Twitter to rally protesters.

"Governments and presidents are not being changed through Wattspot and Facebook, but through elections," Bashir told hundreds of his supporters at a televised gathering in the eastern city of Kassala.

"We must satisfy our masses, especially young people, who are the center of our interest to secure their future and participate by sitting and talking with them."

Activists documented protests on December 19 through the publication of many images of clashes between protesters and security forces on social networking sites.
