NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Eating fried foods raises the risk of premature death in women who have passed menopause, a recent study suggests. The study was based on an evaluation of data of more than 100,000 women for a long time, and the results could apply to men as well.

Many people accept to eat fried foods (chicken or fish ...) which have a special flavor that distinguishes them from the rest of the other foods, as well as its simple preparation and relatively low price.

However, eating fried foods can have serious health consequences. A recent study linked chicken or fried fish to a regular diet and the risk of premature death, especially for women who have passed menopause, according to the scientific site Science Daily. Published in the scientific journal "BMJ" (bmj).

Eating menopausal foods on a daily basis may raise their risk of premature death by 13 percent, said the study by the University of Iowa. "Reducing consumption of this type of fried food - especially chicken and fish - may have a positive effect on public health.

The results were based on an assessment of dietary data for 106,966 women between 50 and 79 years of age and followed up for 18 years. Where experts looked at the number of times women ate fried foods such as fish and chicken, as well as French fries.

The Science Daily reported that experts had observed about 31,588 deaths, of which 9,320 were linked to heart disease, 8,358 were cancer, while 13,880 were deaths from other causes.

"The reduction in the consumption of fried foods, especially chicken and fish, can have several benefits to public health," said study supervisor Wei Bao of the University of Iowa. "The consumption of this type of fried food is unfortunately widespread throughout the world.

In the same vein, the German site Hail Praxis noted that experts in their study found that women who ate fried chicken daily had a 13% higher risk of early death than women who did not.

For women who ate fried fish daily, their risk of premature death was 7 percent higher than those who did not eat fried fish, and experts said fried foods generally caused early death and health problems.

In contrast, the American study indicated that the results are not limited to women only, and can apply to men, while the oils were not identified and the temperature at which these foods were placed during the frying, according to the site "Hail Praxis."
