"The United States strongly condemns the incessant rocket attacks on innocent civilians and communities of Israel by Hamas ... We support Israel and its right to self-defense," the US Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In turn, the Israel Defense Forces reported that more than 250 missiles had been launched from the Gaza Strip.
They also clarified that during the day Israeli aircraft attacked 70 targets in the enclave in response to rocket attacks from the Palestinians.
