The Brazilian authorities are investigating a series of dubious cash payments to Flávio Bolsonaro, son of President Jair Bolsonaro. As the TV news program Jornal Nacional reported, the account of Bolsonaro junior 96,000 Real (about 22,500 euros) were paid. There are 48 individual payments made between June and July 2017. At that time Flávio Bolsonaro was a deputy in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The television report relied on a document from the National Authority for Combating Financial Crime (COAF) stating that it was unclear who had paid the money. The process is suspicious because 48 times the same amount has always been deposited with a bank in the regional parliament of Rio.

It is not the first time that family members of the Brazilian president have noticed suspicious transfers. Last year, the financial investigators found "atypical transactions" in the account of the former chauffeur and bodyguard of Flávio Bolsonaro.

This is said to have paid in the years 2016 and 2017 converted about 270,000 euros to the son and wife of the current president. The sum clearly exceeded the income of the former chauffeur. However, the Supreme Court of Brazil ruled on Friday the preliminary suspension of the investigation.

For the President in office since the beginning of the month the proceedings are unpleasant. The ultra-right-wing politician won the presidential election in October against his counterpart Fernando Haddad of the left-wing workers' party (PT) and announced a tough fight against corruption and crime. Last year, more than 63,000 people were killed in Brazil.
