Ruptly multimedia agency received gold in the category “The best news coverage of events on the air” for broadcasting protests of “yellow vests” in France. Video agency bypassed Bloomberg Media. Ruptly and RT journalists covered the events from the first day of the protests, directly from the places where the demonstrators and the police clashed. Demonstrators chanted "Merci, RT!", after seeing the Ruptly film crew. Activists of the "yellow vests" watched the appeal of President Emmanuel Macron to the nation on RT France.

The jury of the Shorty Awards awarded the victory to the large-scale cross-platform project RT # Romanovs100, timed to coincide with the centenary of the execution of the royal family, in the category "Best use of images / photos." # Romanovs100, launched in cooperation with the State Archive of Russia, was implemented on four social media platforms - YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. As part of the project, several thousand photographs from the Romanov archives were published. Today it is the most complete photo collection of the royal family. Internet users, in turn, recognized # Romanovs100 as the winner in the categories “Best use of Facebook”, “Best use of hashtag” and “Best narrative project”, in which # Romanovs100 walked around the work of the American company Netflix.

The RT360 application for viewing panoramic content won in the category “Best photo and video application” both by decision of the jury and by the results of the audience voting. RT was one of the first among the world's media to start producing 360-degree news videos. As part of the joint project with Roskosmos and RSC Energia of the Cosmos 360 project, RT was the first in the world to “send” viewers into space, showing footage of the Earth taken on the ISS. RT also introduced SPACEWALK 360 - the first ever panoramic video from deep space.

The Shorty Awards is a prestigious annual social media promotion award. In 2019, the prize was held for the eleventh time.
