According to the President, for 60 years the society has contributed to the strengthening of mutual understanding and trust between the peoples of the two countries.

"The recent progress in the development of the Russian-Vietnamese comprehensive strategic partnership has largely been possible thanks to the active efforts of the people's diplomacy, including through the Friendship Society," Putin said.

The head of state stressed that the organization plays a particularly significant role in enhancing cooperation in the spheres of culture, science, education, sports, and tourism.

He also noted the expansion of contacts between the regions of Russia and Vietnam and twin-city relations between the cities of the two countries.

Earlier, Putin congratulated Vietnam's President Chiang Dai Kuang on Independence Day.
