“On both sides, the important role played by the 201st Russian military base in maintaining peace and stability in the Central Asian region was noted,” the Russian leader said.

Putin said that during the visit of his colleague from Tajikistan to Moscow, the parties managed to discuss security problems in the region against the background of possible challenges from the territory of Afghanistan.

The presidents of the two states agreed to deepen cooperation in the defense and military-technical sectors, as well as in matters of anti-terrorism and anti-drug control.

Earlier, Putin noted that relations between Russia and Tajikistan are developing in the spirit of strategic partnership.
