Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has called for an end to all initiatives related to the review of the constitutional articles relating to the presidential term, stressing in an official statement that he continues to respect his steadfast position and determination to respect the constitution of the country and not accept any constitutional amendment.

Ould Abdel Aziz, whose second term ends in mid-2019, has rejected any constitutional amendment affecting articles 26, 28 and 99 of the country's constitution.

Vice-loyalists of the president submitted a bill to the parliament to amend the constitution and allow the president a third term, amid strong opposition from the majority MPs and opposition MPs rejected it. Activists demonstrated before the Mauritanian parliament to protest attempts to amend the constitution.

For his part, quoted the Mauritanian news agency "News" Saleh Ould Hanna, leader of the opposition forum, the leader of the Unionist and Change Party Mauritanian satisfaction with the president to stop what he described as "a sedition that would burn the green and the ground if it ignited."

Ould Hanna said in a tweet on his Twitter account that they register their satisfaction with the situation despite what he described as "the bad time, where the breeding is growing even if it is at the expense of the homeland and despite everything that was done by the regime of Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz."

In turn, the Islamic leader and former president of the National Rally for Reform and Development Party, Mohamed Jamil Ould Mansour, thanked the Mauritanian president for saying that he hoped "this arch would be closed, the voices would be silenced and the movers would stop."
