“During the conversation, the Secretary of State congratulated Salome Zurabishvili on his victory in the presidential election ... and expressed the hope that the newly elected president will visit the United States in the near future,” the statement said.
Earlier, Zurabishvili reported that Georgia is a close military ally of the European Union and the United States.
On November 29, it became known that Zurabishvili won the presidential election with 59.52% of the vote. Opposition candidate Grigol Vashadze gained 40.48%.
