US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the United States would hold accountable those found responsible for the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, noting that investigations into the crime were still ongoing.

Pompio made his remarks in an interview with Fox News shortly before CIA director Gina Haspel gave a briefing to House leaders behind closed doors regarding the killing of Khashoggi inside his consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on the second of last month.

Last week, Hubble made a similar testimony before the Senate in a closed session, followed by the voices of members calling for condemnation of Saudi Arabia after they became more convinced of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's involvement in the crime.

In contrast, President Donald Trump said in a private interview with Reuters yesterday that he stood by the Saudi Crown Prince despite the CIA's assessment that the latter had ordered the killing of the journalist and despite pleas from senators to denounce Prince Mohammed.

Khashoggi's death in early October provoked a wave of international outrage against the kingdom, demands to locate the body and hold the culprits accountable, especially for the crime.
