Following the acquittal of Pakistan's Asia Bibi on Wednesday (October 31st), the Islamists protested for three days in protest against the Supreme Court ruling. They were able to appeal the court ruling and prevent the young woman from leaving the country. An agreement reached with the government that the husband of Asia Bibi criticizes.

The husband of Pakistani Asia Bibi, acquitted after ten years in prison for "blasphemy", criticized Saturday, November 3, the agreement reached the day before by the government with the Islamists, which compromises the release of his wife.

This agreement, after three days of demonstrations against the acquittal of this Christian originally sentenced to death, "should never have taken place," said Ashiq Masih at German radio Deutsche Welle.

Prohibition to leave the territory

The Islamabad government has pledged to launch a procedure to ban Asia Bibi from leaving the country and not to block a petition to review his acquittal, initiated by a religious called Qari Salam.

"It is wrong to set a precedent of putting pressure on justice," said Ashiq Masih, for whom "the government should never have" to yield to the pressure of Islamist protesters.

For him, the Pakistani Supreme Court was "very brave" Wednesday by acquitting his wife, a mother illiterate in her fifties, whose nightmare began in 2009 while working in the fields.

Relying on religious reasons, two Muslim women refused to share a glass of water with her and a quarrel broke out. A few days later, these women had reported the case to a local imam who had accused the Christian of "insulting" the prophet of Islam, which it has always denied.

"We have no protection"

"The current situation is very dangerous for us. We have no protection and we hide, frequently changing places, " said Ashiq Masih, while Asia Bibi's lawyer left Pakistan on Saturday morning, saying he feared for his life.

Ashiq Masih called on the government to strengthen the "security" of his wife "in prison" , fearing that it will be attacked. "It must be remembered that two Christians from Faisalabad were shot dead years after being released by the courts. They too had been accused of blasphemy, " he said.
