"Israel joins the United States, Canada, most Latin American and European countries in recognizing the new leadership of Venezuela," RIA Novosti quotes Netanyahu as saying.

Earlier in Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom and several European countries, they said that they would recognize Venezuelan leader as the chairman of the opposition National Assembly, Juan Guaido, if in the near future the country does not decide to hold elections.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called on European countries to withdraw the ultimatum put forward earlier to Caracas regarding the time for holding early elections in the country.

On January 23, during an opposition rally in Caracas, Guaido declared himself acting president of Venezuela. The United States later called on Venezuelan leader Nicholas Maduro to transfer power to Guaido.
