Enemies for life: The longstanding lawyer of US President Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, has campaigned for votes against Trump's Republicans in the upcoming congressional election. "Here's my recommendation," said Cohen, who has fallen out with Trump, on Friday a reporter on the CNN channel in New York. "Grab your family, grab your friends, grab your neighbors, vote, and if you do not, you'll have another two or six years out of this craze."

"Get to the poll, if not, you are going to have another two or another six years of this craziness." Michael Cohen, Donald Trump's former lawyer, tells Americans to vote against the President and the Republican Party. https://t.co/tuTCnxfQfP pic.twitter.com/VXfbAPIKAY

Cohen alluded to the remaining two years of Trump's presidency - and his possible re-election in 2020 for another four-year term. Cohen had recently returned to the opposition Democrats and had distanced himself from the values of the Trump government. There are demands among Democrats to initiate impeachment proceedings against Trump. That Trump is actually dismissed from office, is currently unlikely.

Such a procedure would have to be decided by a majority in the Chamber of Deputies, and the Senate would then have to vote by a two-thirds majority for an impeachment. The Democrats are indeed given opportunities to conquer a majority in the House of Representatives and possibly even in the Senate in the congressional elections on 6 November. A two-thirds majority in the Senate is excluded.

Cohen pleaded guilty to a New York court in August and testified that he had paid Trump's hush money to two women on assignment. The two women claim to have had an affair with Trump, which he denies. The money should have been paid to avert damage from the election campaign of the then presidential candidate. It would thus possibly be a campaign contribution, which is subject to strict legal requirements.
