“For its part, Russia strictly abides by the INF Treaty and did not allow any violations, including those attributed to us by the Americans,” the diplomat said.

As Ryabkov stressed, respectively, the US’s chosen “legal justification for the suspension declared by them, namely, a reference to a material breach of the treaty by Russia, is absolutely untenable.”

“This decision of Washington is insignificant from a legal point of view, and the INF Treaty will continue to operate even after the expiration of the 60 days designated by the Americans, remaining binding on all parties,” he added.

Ryabkov also said that the United States, through bilateral channels, had confirmed to Russia that the decision to quit the INF Treaty was final.

In early December, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States would stop fulfilling its obligations under the contract if "Russia does not return to its execution within 60 days."
