“None other than provocative, we consider the recent statements of the NATO Secretary General and the US Secretary of State on support of Georgia’s membership in NATO. It was such irresponsible promises in August 2008 that pushed Tbilisi toward a criminal military adventure, ”the foreign ministry said.
In September, NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Goethemuller, during her visit to Tbilisi, noted the progress of Georgia in preparing to join the alliance.
Later, the Foreign Ministry said that the entry of Ukraine and Georgia into NATO would force Russia to build a defensive belt near Sochi.
