Macedonia’s Parliament supported the renaming of the country

It is reported RIA Novosti with reference to the results of the vote.

As chairman of parliament Talat Jaferi announced, 80 people voted “for”, 39 - “against”.

Now the document must be submitted for signature by President George Ivanov.

Earlier it became known that the referendum on renaming Macedonia was declared invalid.

According to the election commission, 666,743 people took part in the vote, which amounted to 36.91% of the total number of voters. Of these, 91.46% were in favor of the agreement between Skopje and Athens, and 6.56% were against.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that Macedonia could join the alliance only if an agreement was reached with Greece on the name of the country.
