Lavrov and Pompeo discussed prospects for building bilateral relations between Russia and the United States

The conversation took place on July 21 on the American initiative.

"In the development of the Russian-American summit in Helsinki on July 16, the foreign ministers exchanged views on the prospects for further building relations between our countries with a view to their normalization on an equal and mutually beneficial basis," the Foreign Ministry said.

Lavrov and Pompeo also discussed the situation in and around Syria, including the possible interaction between Moscow and Washington, together with other countries, to resolve humanitarian problems in the UAR.

In addition, they discussed the tasks related to supporting efforts to promote the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

On July 16, Lavrov and Pompeo held talks in Helsinki.
