A member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Hanan Ashrawi said that the Israeli occupation is holding 291 Palestinian children in its prisons.

"We still remember about 5,900 detainees, including 291 children, who are currently being held in Israeli jails and detention centers," Ashrawi said in a statement issued on Monday on the release of the girl, Ahd al-Tamimi.

Ashrawi demanded the immediate release of all detainees. "Israel continuously violates the rights of Palestinian detainees, while the international community condones such unlawful behavior and inhuman treatment," she said.

Ashrawi said that her mother and her mother, Nariman, were unfairly arrested by the Israeli occupation forces. She said they were arrested for political revenge.

She explained that what happened with the era and what is happening with the Palestinian detainees reflects the cowardly nature of the occupation army.

On Monday, the Israeli authorities released her mother and mother, Nariman, at the entrance to their town of Saleh, west of Ramallah, in the center of the West Bank.

Ahad was arrested at the age of 17 and completed her 18th year in prison.

In March, an Israeli military court sentenced Tamimi to eight months in prison for obstructing and assaulting an Israeli soldier.

Following her arrest on December 19, Tamimi became an icon of popular resistance in Palestine.
