HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, today witnessed the World Heart Conference 2018, which Dubai Health Authority (DHA) succeeded in winning its host, following a strong competition in which Singapore overtook Singapore, Cape Town and South Korea. More than 5,000 scientists, doctors and specialists, representing various health and academic institutions, research centers, associations and organizations around the world, have started their work at the Dubai World Trade Center.

"The conference hosts an elite of the medical community, which is an ideal opportunity to take advantage of the scientific momentum, workshops, open debates and ongoing sessions to come up with a unified vision that reflects the scale of the problem and the possible solutions to be implemented," said Hamid Mohammed Al Qattami, Director General of DHA. His Highness the Crown Prince of Dubai, from Al Qatami and the presence of the Minister of Health and Community Protection Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, have been briefed on a number of projects adopted by the Dubai Health Authority to reduce the spread of cardiovascular disease in society.

The conference will be held in cooperation with the organization of the World Heart Federation. The event will be held tomorrow, in conjunction with the ninth conference of the UAE Heart Association and the 15th GCC Heart Association.

The agenda of the World Congress has more than 200 scientific sessions discussing heart disease, hypertension and related diseases. About 600 international experts are expected to participate. 1,000 papers will be reviewed on the latest developments and challenges in the field of cardiology. 5,000 participants from around the world are expected to attend, as well as government representation of official bodies such as the World Health Organization, the European Society of Cardiology , The American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology, the African Heart Network, and the Saudi Society of Cardiology.

A number of scientific lectures, workshops and panel discussions will be held on the sidelines of the conference, in addition to the open exhibition of some of the relevant regulatory bodies and international associations.

The head of the World Heart Conference, Dr. Fahd Basileb, revealed that 5% of heart attack patients in Dubai are aged 20 years.

He said that the laws and procedures implemented by the State on tobacco and smoking controls have contributed significantly to the improvement of rates and rates of cardiovascular disease, as a result of cracking down on these practices, whether to ban smoking in public places or to impose taxes on tobacco products.

"The state has also established a model school feeding system to treat obesity among students, where statistics show that 30% of students in all schools from grades 1 through 12 are obese."

He pointed out that the World Heart Conference, will work through senior specialists and scientists in this area to develop policies and protocols for heart disease, and then come out with recommendations to strengthen treatment methods and prevention.
