Haiti will sign an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help its most vulnerable citizens. The IMF has decided to give a $ 229 million loan to the Caribbean country, which is still plunged into an intense socio-political crisis, with no dialogue between power and radical opposition. This aid is obviously not given without consideration and the government will have to prove itself.

The details of the program on which the IMF and the Haitian state have agreed are not yet public, but it contains, says the IMF, " a set of social protection measures ranging from school canteens and targeted transfers to social housing ".

This loan is a welcome aid for the government, which should finally be able to present the budget for this fiscal year, which is already halfway through. However, this does not go far - by far - enough to solve the immense difficulties of the poor majority of families.

No interest will be paid on the repayment of the $ 229 million, but the disbursements of the IMF will spread over the next three years. And the international organization is waiting for Haiti to reduce its budget deficit.

Strict efforts must also be accompanied by " more transparency in the management of public finances ", that is to say that the fight against corruption will have to materialize.

IMF assistance is ultimately a right of scrutiny if not a certain control of the management of the administration of Jovenel Moise.
