More than a ton of spoiled meat was found Tuesday in a butcher's shop in Agde, Herault, during a check by police officers and agents of the Departmental Directorate of Population Protection (DDPP), learned AFP from police source. The check was triggered by the report of a dissatisfied customer.

Expiration dates passed by several months. On Tuesday morning, the officials found unfurnished fridges and freezers full of lamb, poultry and beef, some of which had been expired for several months. The manager, who will have to destroy the damaged goods at his own expense, was not there but the employee was banned from selling in the butcher shop and the nearby grocery store.

Towards a definitive closure? This butchery was taken over last February by a new manager who offered Halal products. Sub-prefect Christian Pouget confirmed the facts and indicated that everything would be done to ensure that the establishment is permanently closed.
