Denis Baupin was dismissed but the court also sentenced him for improper proceedings. JEAN-SEBASTIEN EVRARD / AFP

On Friday, 19 April, justice released journalists accused of defamation for giving the floor to women accusing Denis Baupin of sexual assault and harassment, after a press lawsuit cast against the former ecologist MP .

With this trial, Denis Baupin wanted to wash his honor. But the proceedings he initiated finally turned against him. Not only was he dismissed, but the court sentenced him for improper proceedings. He must pay 500 euros in damages to each of the defendants who had made the request.

Last February, the debates went on the offensive against the former Green MP who never came to the hearing. At the bar, eight women had recounted inappropriate gestures, salacious messages, situations experienced as assaults of great violence.

Cécile Duflot, Minister of Housing and Territorial Equality in the Jean-Marc Ayrault government, had for the first time told a scene of aggression of which she would have been the victim.

The complaints filed by some had not given anything because of the prescription of the facts alleged. So it is Denis Baupin himself who launched the judicial machine by opening a procedure for defamation.

The Criminal Court also released journalists from Mediapart and France Inter who had revealed the case. The judges were of the opinion that the subject was in addition of general interest.
