The auditor-general of the Congolese armed forces has decided to dismiss one part of the so-called "mercenaries" case, in which six soldiers and policemen were being prosecuted. But Moise Katumbi, accused of hiring mercenaries to destabilize former President Kabila, is not yet fully laundered. There is indeed another aspect to this case, which directly concerns the opponent. This case is still before the Constitutional Court.

The ungrateful filing grade is dated March 9, but was not released until last night. The listener makes two arguments. " Open investigations ", he writes, did not establish the " effective presence of these mercenaries in Katanga at the material time ". But that's not all. He also explains that the new President of the Republic having made " political relaxation his workhorse ", it would be " inappropriate " to continue the investigation of a file " resulting in a fiasco of reconciliation policy so much advocated " .

Me Mukendi, one of the lawyers of Moses Katumbi, who has always denounced " a political coup mounted " against his client, greets " a very wise decision that honors justice " according to him ...

However, the legal saga against the former governor of Katanga is not over yet. Last year, justice separated the case into two parts. One about the military suspects and police who just fell. The other concerning civilians, including Moïse Katumbi, remains the main defendant. This case is currently in the Constitutional Court.

The defense seeks to have the proceedings annulled on the ground that the Court of Cassation, which initially dealt with it, is not competent. Two hypotheses therefore: either the court gives them reason and it is the end, or the file is returned to the Court of Cassation for judgment. If this was the case, according to his lawyer, Katumbi was to appear " as a free man ", his co-defendants having been released on bail.
