In all the states of Algeria, demonstrations took place today in which hundreds of thousands of people opposed to the decisions of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika took part, including postponing the presidential elections indefinitely.

In Algiers, the demands of the protesters in Jumaa al-Shifa focused on changing the regime from its roots and prosecuting those who violated the constitution, who caused the country to reach this deteriorating situation.

The demonstrators gathered in the central post square two hours before the date of the demonstration on Friday since Bouteflika announced the postponement of the elections and his withdrawal from the candidacy and the extension of his mandate, which is supposed to end on April 28.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in the far-away Maurice Udan square, where they took part in the major demonstration after Friday prayers.

Police and riot police deployed in sensitive areas and large squares, especially near the presidential palace and the prime minister's office, in large numbers, witnesses said, as elements of the gendarmerie spread at the entrances of Algiers to prevent demonstrators from other states from reaching central Algiers .

Demonstrators in the central post office in the capital chanted slogans rejecting the existence of Bouteflika, and expressed their rejection of the measures announced last Monday.

The number of participants was greater than in the past few weeks, on Friday, which it called the "Friday of the Chapter," which appears to be a test for both Bouteflika's supporters and his opponents, especially after the president's recent decisions.

Dozens of workers from the state-owned oil company Sonatrach held protest rallies at the oil base Hassi Masoud and the gas base Hassi al-Raml, south of Raml, refusing to extend Bouteflika's term of office and demanding the current regime to leave.

Opposition parties and figures have rejected Bouteflika's decisions as an encroachment on the constitution and an illegal extension of his presidential term, which expires on 28 September. And called for continued popular movement until the departure of the current regime.
