China's foreign ministry urged the immediate release of vice chairman Huang Wei, chief financial officer of a Chinese communications equipment company arrested in Canada, but warned otherwise there would be a corresponding result.

The foreign ministry said in a statement on August 8 that the deputy chief of the ruling Uri Party delivered a strong protest to the ambassador in Beijing.

Wang, who is the daughter of Huawei founder Rong Ji Fei, was arrested by the Canadian authorities at the request of the US government during her stay in Canada on the 1st of last day.

Huang is accused of using a number of financial institutions to mobilize a ghost company called "Skycom" to access the Iranian market in a deal that violated US sanctions against Iran.

"If the US is repatriated to the US at the request of the US authorities, Mr. Vonks may be prosecuted for plotting fraud against a number of financial institutions," foreign sources said.
