Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir announced on Wednesday that this year is the year of peace and the silence of the gun in Sudan.

"The peace process needs a jihad," Bashir told the Popular Defense Forces (PDF), calling on the Popular Defense Forces (PDF) to shift their tasks from fighting in areas of operations to working to stabilize peace and move to different theaters of operations to persuade The rebels to the viability of peace.

"The jihad, which was approved by the government during the war in southern Sudan and before its separation, was aimed at achieving peace and not for the killing and victory over the popular movement led by John Garang at the time."

"We must use the same media used for demolition and construction," he said.

Bashir announced last January an open cease-fire scenes of various operations in Sudan until the achievement of peace.
