Libet Werhahn is dead. The youngest daughter of the first German Chancellor, Konrad Adenauer (CDU), died on Sunday in Neuss after a short illness at the age of 90 years. This was confirmed by the managing director of the Federal Chancellor Adenauer-Haus Foundation, citing the family.

Previously, the "Rheinische Post" reported on the death. Because Adenauer was a widower in his time as Federal Chancellor from 1949 to 1963, his daughter often accompanied him on official visits to, for example, the United States. Therefore, she was considered the first First Lady of the newly founded Federal Republic of Germany.

In 1950 she married the wealthy industrialist Hermann Josef Werhahn (1923-2016) from Neuss, where she lived ever since. Until recently, Libet Werhahn - CDU member since 1946 - represented clear political views. So she resisted that conservative critics of Angela Merkel claimed that this squandered Adenauer's legacy.
