Al Jazeera monitored the education situation in the western city of Hodeidah and the challenges it faces under the war. More than 60,000 students have stopped going to school because of the fighting, according to UNICEF.

Because of the fighting and shelling, schools in the city of Hodeidah have either been closed or turned into shelters for the displaced.

Officials say the number of people deprived of education in all Hodeidah districts can reach half a million students, while teachers have been unemployed for two years.

Amidst this deteriorating reality, UNICEF called on all parties to the conflict to stop fighting and neutralize schools from military activities, as well as the need to keep students and teachers away from harm.
