The leader of the construction coalition Hadi al-Amiri withdrew his candidacy from the competition for the presidency of the next Iraqi government, which faces a difficult margin in light of differences between the main political forces on the right candidate for the post.

Amiri told a news conference on Tuesday that he would take this step to open the way for the serious dialogues currently under way to elect a future prime minister and government according to the vision of the Shiite religious authority.

Amiri's withdrawal comes a day after the name of former oil minister Adel Abdul Mahdi as the most likely candidate to lead the next government because he also enjoys the support of Hadi al-Amiri and leader of the alliance "led by" Shiite leader Moqtada al-Sadr, according to media reports.

In addition to Adel Abdul Mahdi, Iraqi sources are the names of several candidates, including the team Abdel Wahab al-Saadi, former head of the popular rally Faleh al-Fayadh, and leader of the coalition, "Saaron" Raed Fahmi.
