The immunity of the Green Bundestag Canan Bayram should be repealed because the prosecutor wants to investigate because of a possible violation of the assembly law.

The investigation relates to Bayram's participation in counter-protests to a right-wing populist "women's march" in February, reports the "taz". Bayram described the allegations against the newspaper as "strange". She assumes that "nothing is left".

AfD and Pegida in the process

Bayram is the only directly elected member of parliament of the Greens. Her constituency is located in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, previously he was represented by Christian Ströbele in the Bundestag. Like her predecessor, the politician works as a lawyer and has been involved for years against right-wing extremism.

The "women's march" was directed against violence against women, but this was mainly due to offenders with a migrant background. In February, several AfD MPs joined the march. Also the Pegida boss Lutz Bachmann traveled to the protest.

According to the report, the competent committee of the Bundestag is to lift Bayram's immunity on Thursday. This applies as a matter of form.

Act: "joint close cooperation"

The Berlin public prosecutor's office is planning a formal investigation against the politician. She was accused of having blocked the "women's march" by "joining forces" with hundreds of other demonstrators at a crossroads, the newspaper quoted from a letter from the prosecutor.

Hundreds of counter-demonstrators had blocked the "march to the chancellery" for hours in February. The organizers then declared the demonstration over. The AfD politician Leyla Bilge had initiated the demonstration.

Bilge wanted to demonstrate with the "march" according to women's rights. "We are here in Germany in the 21st century, there must be no relapse into the Middle Ages and gradual introduction of sharia", it said on the Facebook page of the march. The counter-demonstrators accused the initiators of racism under the guise of feminism.
