Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met Saturday in Ramallah with the delegation of Egyptian General Intelligence headed by the agent Amr Hanafi and a number of Egyptian officials from the General Intelligence Service.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Hanafi conveyed the message of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to his Palestinian counterpart, affirming Egypt's steadfast stance on supporting the Palestinian people to end the occupation and establish its state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On the other hand, Abbas confirmed the Palestinian leadership's confidence in the role of Cairo, and adherence to that care, within the framework of one authority and a law that the general elections are a goal for full national partnership.

In August, a Palestinian source said Egyptian intelligence officials were continuing to talk to faction representatives after talks with senior Israeli officials as Cairo sought to announce a long-term truce between Israel and the factions.

The Palestinian source told Al-Jazeera that a lengthy and "positive" meeting was held between the Islamic Jihad delegation and Egyptian intelligence officials. He also discussed several issues, notably calm and the lifting of the siege on Gaza, adding that a meeting would be held between the factions' representatives and the Egyptian intelligence chief.

This comes after a brief visit by Kamel to Tel Aviv, during which he met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, and then to Ramallah where he met with officials of the Palestinian Authority, according to Israeli media.

The sources said that Egypt requested the dispatch of a representative of the Fatah movement to continue efforts to reach a truce agreement with Israel and discuss the file of reconciliation, but the Palestinian Authority requested postponement of the visit until Eid al-Adha because of the continuation of meetings of the Palestinian Central Council in Ramallah.
