His Highness said that the announcement of the award of the contract is a major step in the company's path towards achieving its goal of establishing a modern, sustainable and cost-effective national railway network.

He added that the launch of the first package, which represents the first phase of the second phase of the project, paves the way for the expansion of the national rail network, which is a quantum leap in the transport sector in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council. Etihad Airways is working fast and is planning to launch the project from Ghweifat to Fujairah Port within the coming months.

The second phase of the project will focus on the design and construction of the railway infrastructure, including drilling, bridges, tunnels, main and subsidiary stations, and linking the first phase of the second phase of the network, worth AED 1.5 billion, which will include a double track, Million tons of gravel, about 400 concrete beams, and 33 thousand tons of iron bars.
