Beijing, May 5 (Zhongxin Net) -- The launch ceremony of the series of commemorative covers of "Important Scientific and Technological Inventions and Creations in Ancient China" was held in Beijing on May 31, and its first series of 5 commemorative covers (tide table, Anji Bridge, Dunhuang star map, human pox inoculation, greenhouse cultivation, decimal value system and arithmetic counting, papermaking, geokinetics, gunpowder) were officially unveiled.

The series of commemorative covers of "Important Scientific and Technological Inventions and Creations in Ancient China" are based on the phased research results of the Institute of History of Natural Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of History of Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences) 88 items of "Important Scientific and Technological Inventions and Creations in Ancient China", which are divided into three categories: scientific discoveries and creations (30 items), technical inventions (45 items), engineering achievements (13 items), and nine categories: agriculture and textiles, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, materials and instruments, machines and instruments, gunpowder and firearms for vehicles and ships, civil engineering, optical geoscience and prosody.

This series is a sub-series of the China Post Science Communication Series "Commemorative Cover for the Development of Science and Technology in China", and the commemorative cover is labeled PFTN· KJ GD, plans to issue 88 pieces, divided into 10 series and 3 years to complete the release, each series of 8-9 pieces, aiming to show China's ancient scientific achievements from different angles, reflect China's long history, culture and scientific and technological civilization, disseminate scientific ideas, and carry forward the spirit of science.

The first series of 9 pieces released on the same day was supervised and produced by the Science Communication Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Science and Technology Communication Center, which is another philatelic masterpiece of science and technology themes. This series of "Dunhuang Star Map" (PFTN· KJ GD-3), designed and produced by special paper "earth paper" and red fluorescent ink process, can be developed by illuminating with purple light.

Designed by Zhang Panjian and Zhang Qingfeng, the commemorative cover of this series is unified and distinctive in style, with the beauty of science and art, which can not only feel the antique color of traditional culture, but also bold innovation in design and production. Each type of postmark is labeled with a color system against the traditional Chinese color spectrum, and the color is different. The commemorative cover is equipped with a beautiful envelope, which intuitively expresses scientific and technological achievements through the main picture, postmark, and personalized stamps, and at the same time adds a three-fold insert card - a page "manual" - in the cover, scan the QR code of the cover, and watch animated short films and participate in interactive games.

At the launch ceremony, Zhao Aiguo, deputy general manager of China Philatelic Co., Ltd., presented five sets of ancient science and technology covers with special numbers 2013, 2023, 1957, 1956 and 1988 to the Bureau of Science Communication of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Science and Technology Communication Center, the Institute of History of Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Science and Technology Press Co., Ltd., and the Philatelic Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, respectively, representing the years of creation of their respective units. The unveiling ceremony of the "National Science and Technology Communication Center Theme Post Office" was also held at the scene.

It is understood that the second series of commemorative covers (9 pieces) of the series of "Important Scientific and Technological Inventions and Creations in Ancient China" include: Mawangdui Map, Grand Canal, Astronomical Records, Materia Medica, Rice Cultivation, Pythagorean Rongyuan, Movable Type Printing, Xinmang Copper Calipers, Watertight Bulkheads, which belong to optical geoscience and rhythmology, civil engineering, astronomy, medicine, agriculture and textiles, mathematics, materials and instruments, machines and instruments, vehicle and ship gunpowder and firearms, which are scheduled to be released on September 2023, 9, National Science Day.
