This month, a 38-year-old office worker was arrested on suspicion of arson for setting fire to his room in an apartment in Suginami Ward, Tokyo, and partially burning the apartment.

Suspect Izuru Hamada (38), a company employee in Suginami Ward, Tokyo, was arrested.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, on the 12th of this month, it is suspected that he sprinkled oil for a lighter in his room on the second floor of a two-story wooden apartment in Matsunoki, Suginami-ku and set it on fire.

Residents were able to evacuate safely, but the fire destroyed approximately 46 square meters of the second floor of the apartment building.

In response to the investigation, he admitted to the charges such as "I made a series of mistakes at work and it wasn't going well, so I thought I was going to commit suicide and set a fire."

Before the incident, the company employee had purchased a gas cylinder for a cassette stove along with oil for a lighter, and the Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the details.
