By Toutatis, the Gauls explode everything in their path.
The film
Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire
made the best start for a French film in 15 years, with 466,703 tickets sold in France on Wednesday, despite harsh reviews.
The most famous of the Gauls slightly outpaced the figures for
La Ch'tite famille
by Dany Boon, which had 451,530 admissions on its first day in 2018, according to figures from the CBO Box Office.
It is the seventh best start of all time for a French film.
However, it could not surpass the success of another Dany Boon film, "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis", released in 2008 (558,359 admissions).
The director of this blockbuster, Guillaume Canet, who also plays the role of Asterix, posted a screenshot on Instagram which indicated this information with the word "Thank you".
