The inauguration of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, "Al Marmoum Reserve" in 2018, was a great incentive for the journalist and researcher Juma bin Thalith Al Hamiri, to start the process of researching and documenting the story of one of the most important desert reserves in the region. The country and the region are driven mainly by the stories of the fathers and the stories of the ancestors, which have always sung about the status of the Marmoum and its environmental diversity, “as it is the lung of Dubai and the habitat of nature,” according to Bin Thalith.

Bin Thalith assured "Emirates Today" that "announcing the inauguration of the Marmoum Reserve, to be the largest eco-tourist destination in the implementation of which nine government agencies participate, and aims to attract one million visitors annually, was the starting whistle for my launch with a specialized work team in an intensive research process that took four years. And it called for great efforts to get to know the story of the Marmoum and its details.

He added, "In the research process, we sought to collect information and historical facts from its sources, in addition to focusing on heritage vocabulary and facts that were matched with the accounts of the residents of the region, who showed a great and clear response that contributed to the issuance of (Al-Marmoom)."

"In the research process, I sought to get to know the region closely through field experience that included dozens of visits in which I met residents of the region, and my team and I took a set of photos that embodied its importance and reflected its unique environmental diversity," he said.

In the process of research and documentation, Bin Thalith was keen to keep up with an important stage that created a special attraction for “Al Marmoum”, especially in light of the development efforts that many government agencies have joined forces for. In it, as he mentioned, “more than 20 environmental, recreational, cultural and sports projects are being implemented, including 10 monitoring platforms.” Wild animals, birds, stargazing, sunset, yoga, and an outdoor theater that hosts performances from around the world, with a capacity of 350 people, in addition to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex, the largest of its kind in one location in the world, with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030. It also hosts more than 20 tournaments and sporting events throughout the year, in which more than 20,000 people participate.

Among the most prominent topics that Bin Thalith dealt with in "Al Marmoom", which will be officially launched at Al Safa Library in Dubai at the end of this month, is the role of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, may God rest his soul, the builder of Dubai and the maker of the "Marmoum" vision, in this region, where He mentioned that he built houses in it and used to visit it at the end of the week, and he was keen to attend camel racing there, especially since it is one of his favorite sports, and he used to allocate financial prizes for it and give it a lot of attention until it has become today one of the most important local and international sports.
