On Monday, the Keeper of the Seals in person, Eric Dupond-Moretti, will symbolically hand over the keys to a building seized by the courts to the Habitat and Humanism association, we learned on Thursday from the Ministry of Justice.

The property, located in Coudekerque-Branche, near Dunkirk, had been confiscated in June 2020 from its owner, convicted of having rented unsanitary accommodation.

From unsanitary building to social housing

This is a great first that will take place on Monday.

Since the law of April 8, 2021, the Ministry of Justice can grant certain associations the enjoyment of property confiscated in the context of a legal case.

The apartments in the building of this northern sleep merchant will now serve as social housing for precarious families in Coudekerque-Branche.

The owner, sentenced to a suspended prison sentence, a large fine and the confiscation of his building, had not hesitated to continue the rental of the latter despite an insalubrity order issued in 2009. He will no longer do so, in particular because he was also sentenced to a ban on renting for a period of ten years.
