The ax fell.

The Carmaux slaughterhouse has been closed since Friday by decision of the prefect of Tarn, who invokes "health reasons".

"Failure to comply with hygiene measures in the preparation of foodstuffs at the Carmaux slaughterhouse [is] likely to result in contamination of the meat prepared within the establishment, making it dangerous for the consumer" , specifies François-Xavier Lauch in a press release.

Two recent inspections

The dispute between the authorities and the Carmausine Slaughtering Company has been going on for several years.

But two inspections, one on December 22 to identify new shortcomings, the other on January 9 to note the absence of corrective measures, got the better of diplomacy.

The prefecture also regrets that the possibility of a subsidy of 800,000 euros for bringing it up to standard, released as part of the Recovery Plan, was not taken by the manager.

The reopening of the carmausin establishment is now “conditional on the implementation of the corrective measures prescribed by the veterinary inspectors”.
