  Lao Rongzhi, born in 1974, was a primary school teacher at Jiujiang Petrochemical Company.

From 1996 to 1999, Lao Rongzhi followed his then boyfriend Fa Ziying to commit four cases of kidnapping, robbery and murder in Nanchang, Wenzhou, Changzhou and Hefei.

In 1999, Faziying was arrested in Hefei and sentenced to death on November 18, 1999 by the Intermediate People's Court of Hefei City, Anhui Province.

Lao Rongzhi was arrested in Xiamen, Fujian Province in December 2019. On December 17 of the same year, the People's Procuratorate of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province approved the arrest of Lao Rongzhi in accordance with the law.
