The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has newly established the "Countermeasures Headquarters for Illegal Consumption Tax Refunds."
On the 30th, the first meeting was held at the countermeasures headquarters, and Director Tetsuro Shigefuji said in front of about 130 staff members in charge of tax investigations and tax collection, "Illegal consumption tax refunds are extremely malicious acts. We need to deal with it strictly. I want you to do your best."
Concerning the consumption tax, there is a refund system in which the difference is refunded from the government if the amount paid by the business operator when purchasing the product is larger than the amount received when selling the product.
According to the National Taxation Bureau, there is no end to the malicious cases of illegally receiving refunds by exploiting this system and overreporting purchases.
As a result of the tax investigation, the amount of additional tax collected as malicious was about 3.4 billion yen nationwide in the year until the end of June last year, and there are cases that have developed into criminal cases.
The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has said that the fraudulent refund of consumption tax is "an act of defrauding national treasury money," and will significantly increase the number of staff to deal with it.
