A former director of the organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics was re-arrested, and an executive was arrested on suspicion of bribery. Interviews with people involved revealed that the contract was signed with the organizing committee as a result of the lower than the original.

The special investigation department of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office is investigating the details of the fact that Ohiro received a large amount of compensation by undertaking contract work for this company.

According to sources, the former director has denied the allegations.

Haruyuki Takahashi, 78, former director of the Organizing Committee of the Tokyo 2020 Games, was asked by Yoshikazu Taniguchi, 57, an executive officer of the advertising company Daiko, to undertake the sponsorship contract for the Tokyo Games, and arranged for his convenience. As a reward, he was re-arrested by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office on the 27th on suspicion of receiving bribes totaling 15 million yen in the three years until February this year.

According to people involved, Daihiro's business partner, a service company that undertook the sponsorship contract, was initially negotiating with the major advertising company Dentsu, which was the point of contact for recruiting sponsors. It means that the amount of the sponsorship money did not come to an agreement.

However, after that, the sponsorship was reduced through the mediation of the former director, and in the end, a sponsorship contract was signed for about 700 million yen.

Ohiro received about 26 million yen as a cooperating agency for the company's sponsorship contract, and the Special Investigation Department believes that Officer Taniguchi provided a bribe as a reward, and is investigating the details.

The Special Investigation Department has not disclosed the identity of the suspect, but according to people involved, the former director has denied it, saying, "I don't remember it."

KADOKAWA "within 380 million yen" Request to show the amount

On the other hand, the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office's Special Investigation Department has announced that Tsuguhiko Kadokawa, 79, the chairman of major publishing company KADOKAWA, who was arrested on suspicion of bribery, was indicted as an accomplice. In collusion with Takahashi, he revealed that he had asked former director Takahashi to indicate the specific amount of money, saying, "I want the sponsorship to be within 380 million yen."

According to people involved, KADOKAWA ultimately spent more than 350 million yen, including 280 million yen in sponsorship money and 76 million yen in consulting fees, which are said to be bribes. As a result, there is a suspicion that the expenses KADOKAWA spent to become a tournament sponsor were kept within the budget.

The Special Investigation Department is expected to proceed with further investigations toward the detention deadline for Chairman Kadokawa on the 4th of next month.

According to people involved, Chairman Kadokawa has denied the allegations.
