A fire broke out on the site of the world's largest fresh produce market near Paris on Sunday.
According to the authorities, one hundred firefighters and 30 fire engines were deployed.
In the afternoon they brought the fire under control in the area of the Marché d'intérêt national de Rungis.
According to firefighters, no one was injured.
According to the Val-de-Marne prefecture, the fire broke out shortly after noon.
The flames destroyed an 8,000 square meter warehouse for fruit and vegetables on the Rungis wholesale market south of the French capital.
Thick clouds of dark smoke rose over the Paris suburbs.
The fire department called on the population on Twitter to avoid the area.
"It's a shock, but we're glad there were no injuries," said Shaoul Abramczyk, head of the Les Halles Mandar group, which owns the warehouse.
"We will not be able to fulfill our partners' orders for several days."
The Marché d'intérêt national de Rungis is the largest wholesale and fresh produce market in the world, covering 234 hectares.
It is located seven kilometers south of Paris in the Val-de-Marne department.
