• Saturated nurse This is how the new antigen tests for flu and Covid work

  • Coronavirus One in three people who have had Covid and have not been vaccinated have no detectable antibodies one year after infection

Although it seems that the

coronavirus

pandemic is coming to an end, new variants and sub-variants of Covid continue to be generated due to mutations.

On September 1, the British government identified a new variant of omicron:

BA.4.6

, which was growing in

the United Kingdom

and represented almost 4% of cases in August.

Little is known about the origin of this

omicron sublineage

, a recombinant-type

mutation

that occurs when two variants that infect the same person form a new genetic mutation that is associated with immune evasion, making it more transmissible but not more serious.

In particular

, the

omicron

sublineage BA.4.6

has a mutation at an antigenically significant site and an

apparent small growth advantage

compared to BA.5.

This could make it more resistant to the full course of the vaccine.

Although the symptoms

have not yet been defined

, BA.4.6 is a subvariant of

omicron

, so it seems predictable that its contagion will trigger similar effects: fatigue, cough, fever or headache, but also diarrhea, sore throat and a period of shorter virus incubation.
