The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has launched the Al Marmoom Short Film Competition, which is part of the second edition of the Al Marmoom Film Festival in the Desert 2022, which is scheduled to be organized next December.

The competition aims to attract talented short films and provide an innovative platform for them to hone and develop their skills, access professionalism, and showcase their creativity to a global audience, as part of Dubai Culture’s efforts to activate the film sector in the emirate and enhance the position of Al Marmoom as a cultural and tourist destination.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Marwan Al Maktoum, Project Director of Al Marmoom Festival, said: “Based on our vision of consolidating the emirate’s position as a global center for culture, an incubator for creativity and a forum for talent, we are working in (Dubai Culture) according to a clear methodology aimed at strengthening the cultural scene in the emirate, and upgrading cultural industries. And creativity in it by supporting innovators and providing an incubating environment for them, which contributes to making the emirate a global capital of the creative economy.”

The festival announced that participation in the competition is available to all interested Emiratis, aged 15 years and over, from the Emiratis, residents, the Middle East and the Arab world.

The participating works will be evaluated and the winning films will be selected by the competition jury, which includes prominent experts in this field, to be announced and rewards will be distributed within the activities of the “Al Marmoom Film Festival in the Desert.”

The winning films will have the opportunity to be screened during the festival.

The first place winner will receive a prize of 50,000 dirhams, the second place winner will receive 25,000 dirhams, and the third place winner will receive 15,000 dirhams.

Participants will compete by submitting high-quality short films of no more than 30 minutes, and that the participant owns all rights related to the short film, and has not previously shown, in one of three categories: Live Action, Animation, and Documentary ;

Note that the competition is open to films filmed using all types of media and cameras, including smart device cameras, with the obligation not to violate public morals.

One thousand dirhams will be awarded to the first-place film, and the winning works will have the opportunity to be shown during the festival.
