Numerous celebrities have reacted with shock to the Supreme Court's historic decision against liberal abortion laws in the USA.

Speaking at Glastonbury in Pilton, England, Billie Eilish said: "Today is a really, really dark day for women in America.

I'm only saying this because I can't bear to think about it any longer." The 20-year-old singer then performed the song "Your Power," which is about abuse of power.

"I'm absolutely shocked that we are where we are," singer Taylor Swift wrote.

"After so many decades of people fighting for women's right to choose their bodies, this decision took that away from us." She shared a tweet from Michelle Obama.

The lawyer, author and wife of former US President Barack Obama wrote that she was "heartbroken" by the Supreme Court's decision.

The verdict will have “devastating consequences”.

"If we don't understand our history, we are doomed to repeat our mistakes," Obama said.

The Supreme Constitutional Court overturned the country's liberal abortion law in a landmark decision on Friday.

By a five-to-four vote, judges on the Conservative court returned abortion laws to the states after nearly fifty years.

In doing so, the court cleared the way for stricter abortion laws – even outright bans.

Hailey Bieber, model and wife of pop star Justin Bieber, commented via Instagram: "Wow...I'm speechless.

What a terrible loss and what a disappointment.

It's very, very scary." Actress Viola Davis wrote via Twitter that she was "devastated".

"Now more than ever we must use our voice and our power."

"It is truly unimaginable and disheartening to have to try to explain to my 11-year-old daughter why we live in a world where women's rights are crumbling before our eyes," wrote singer Mariah Carey.
