“Through the Covid era, our human race raised our borders high, but we also shared a single fear and concern. Movies also went through an era in which theaters lost their customers, but how much of a theater is a movie theater? It was an opportunity for all of us to realize that it is precious. Just as we have hope and strength to overcome this disease, I believe that our films and our filmmakers will protect the cinemas and protect them forever.

" At that time, the face of Japanese master Hirokazu Koreeda was caught on a local broadcast camera.

Director Koreeda was wiping his tears with a tissue.

This acceptance speech was like director Park Chan-wook's suggestion about the meaning of cinema and theater in the era of COVID-19 and the mission of a filmmaker.

Even if their nationality and language are different, they can communicate their sincerity towards the film.

Director Koreeda was moved by director Chan-wook Park's acceptance speech and brought tears to his eyes.

It was a beautiful landscape.

Some even described the two people who entered the competition field as 'competitors'.

However, both of them, who debuted at the same time and were active on the world stage, thought of each other as friends rather than competitors.

In an interview with the local media, Kore-eda said about the rivalry with director Park Chan-wook, "It would be interesting from a reporter's point of view, but the creators don't seem to have that kind of consciousness."

He continued, "As Asians, it is very limited for Asian films to be invited to European film festivals, so if they receive an award at the awards ceremony, they are happy and pat each other on the shoulder and encourage each other. Yesterday (24th), we walked the red carpet together. I felt like a friend with director Park Chan-wook," he said, expressing his affection and respect for director Park Chan-wook.

Director Park Chan-wook also revealed his relationship with director Kore-eda.

He said that 'Nobody Knows', directed by Koreeda Hirokazu, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004 for 'Old Boy', was also invited to the competition section.

He also added that he was surprised to see the work at the time and made it so well.

The two entered the competition once again at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The difference is that both works are Korean films invested and distributed by CJ Entertainment.

It is the fruit of CJ's global collaboration.

Director Park Chan-wook met with reporters right after the award and said, "My film features a Chinese actor, and 'The Broker' was written and directed by a Japanese director. It is meaningful to exchange human resources and capital in Asia. I have seen them work together to make good films in Europe, and I hope that this kind of exchange will become active with Korea at the center,” he said.

Korean films made by the two masters will be available at domestic theaters on June 8 ('Broker') and on the 29th ('Decision to Break Up').
