In just 12 days, Egyptians collect 37 million pounds to save two youths sentenced to death

Egyptian media revealed that a campaign launched by a youth in Minya Governorate in Egypt managed to collect 37 million pounds in just 12 days, with the aim of saving the lives of two Egyptian youths who were sentenced to death inside Saudi territory.

The founder of the campaign and the son of Minya Governorate, Mahmoud Shakal, said that he launched an initiative to collect 37 million Egyptian pounds, equivalent to 7.5 million Saudi riyals, the value of the legal blood money for two Egyptian youths sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia, to stop and freeze the punishment of retribution.

The founder of the initiative thanked the Egyptians residing abroad, explaining that the number of participants in the initiative amounted to about 20,000 people, in addition to other nationalities and the participation of some investment institutions inside Saudi Arabia.

Mahmoud Shakal explained that the two Egyptian youths each spent more than 5 years in Saudi prisons, and that he had contacted Saudi officials to offer blood money instead of execution to the families of the victims, which was set at 7.5 million Saudi riyals.

The founder of the initiative added that the last 36 hours were the most difficult during the journey to collect the blood money, and that he and his team succeeded in communicating with public figures within Gulf countries, through intermediaries who gain their trust, which made them participate in the initiative with large sums that worked to finish collecting the amount within only 12 days .

He stressed that with the release of the two young men from prison, the list of prisoners that he and his team participated in liberating reached 98 of the Egyptians working abroad.
