A polluting slick of about fifteen kilometers was spotted this Wednesday on the Seine in the Yvelines, at Bennecourt and Méricourt.
It was a local resident who alerted the emergency services after seeing a whitish layer on the surface of the water, reports
Le Parisien
.
No environmental risk at first sight
The firefighters immediately dispatched a team specializing in chemical risks, which took samples.
The gendarmes also moved after the opening of an investigation to find the origin of this pollution.
The water table would come from an area around the locks of Méricourt, according to the first elements.
Similar slicks had already been observed around the locks ten years ago, notes
Le Parisien
.
Unfortunately, due to its size and the speed of water flow, the slick could not be captured and disposed of.
However, it does not seem to affect the quality of the water.
