The American company 20th Century Studios is working on a new feature film as part of the Alien franchise.

The project will be released on the video service Hulu.

Uruguayan director Federico Alvarez, best known for Don't Breathe, The Evil Dead: The Black Book and The Girl Who Got Stuck in the Spider's Web, is in charge of directing and scripting.

The director of the original "Alien" Ridley Scott in the new project acts as a producer.

Alvarez is known to be a longtime fan of the franchise.

A few years ago, he discussed a similar project with Ridley Scott, and at the end of 2021, the Briton informed his colleague about his readiness to take on the film.

There are no details about the plot of the new project yet, however, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the tape will not be connected to the story shown in the original film and its sequels.

It will offer viewers a new take on the popular franchise.

According to 20th Century Studios spokesman Steve Asbell, the new Alien is "a really good story with a number of characters you've never seen before."

He also noted that this time the filmmakers will not have to smooth out some of the sharp points that they have to do for theatrical distribution.

“This film is not one that should be suitable for everyone, with their gigantic budgets.

They (Scott and Alvarez. -

) will have the opportunity to make the film they want.

Namely, a film closer to the origins of the genre,” says Asbell.

Alvarez's film isn't the only upcoming project in the franchise.

At the end of 2020, the Alien series was announced for the American FX TV channel (owned by The Walt Disney Company).

The executive producer and screenwriter of the tape is Noah Hawley, who also worked on the popular TV series Fargo.

He also had a hand in the creation of the superhero serial project "Legion" based on Marvel comics.

The action of the series "Alien" will unfold on Earth at the end of the XXI century - before the story presented in the film by Ridley Scott.

The world premiere of the first "Alien" took place on May 25, 1979.

The events of the tape take place in 2122 around the crew of the Nostromo spacecraft.

Returning to Earth, the heroes receive a signal from an unexplored planet.

The crew decides to find its source and descends to the surface of a celestial body.

There, the heroes discover objects that look like eggs.

An unknown creature jumps out of one of them, which turns out to be a xenomorph - the most dangerous organism that can survive in any conditions.

The roles in the film were played by Sigourney Weaver, Ian Holm, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, John Hurt and others.

The film grossed over $106 million worldwide on a budget of $11 million and was praised by film critics and audiences alike.

It has a 98% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 94% general audience rating.

Experts cite interesting characters, an incredibly scary xenomorph and a combination of genres as the merits of Alien.

As The Guardian writer Peter Bradshaw wrote in 2019, Alien still feels very modern even 40 years after its premiere.

The tape received two Oscar nominations and won in the Best Visual Effects category.

The film was also awarded the BAFTA, Saturn and several other awards.

Alien has had a significant impact on science fiction in film.

Before the release of the Ridley Scott film, the genre was associated with optimistic stories of heroism in the spirit of Star Wars and Star Trek.

The British director, in his project, essentially turned the spaceship into a kind of haunted house - horror films often take place in them.

This decision attracted a huge audience and subsequently changed the understanding of science fiction.

As part of the franchise, five more full-length films were released.

The latest at the moment is Alien: Covenant 2017.

Also, two films of the Alien vs. Predator series were shot about the confrontation of these fantastic creatures.
